This is Pixie, an adorable 2 1/2 year old Netherland Dwarf.  Amanda says she fell in love with Pixie at first sight and loves how energetic and feisty she can be!  She says that just seeing Pixie puts a big smile on her face, she loves her with all of her heart and she can’t imagine her life without her.

This is Mickey, a cinnamon coloured mini-rex who’s 10 months old and about to celebrate his first birthday on July 13th.  He has quite the talent!  At only 4 months old Abby started training him for show jumping.  Now he travels across the UK to compete – what a champ!  Abby says she adores him because he is lovable, energetic, adventurous and cheeky!

Remember Basil?  Well this is his new love Rosemary!  This artsy little bun is a dwarf lop who has become the apple of Basil’s eye.  Rosemary loves being groomed by Basil and loves to binky and jump on the furniture.  Her favourite veg is broccoli.  She is adorably floppy and clumsy which Trudy thinks is due to the weight of those giant ears.  You’d never know it from her pensive stance in this photo!

This is 5 year old Laddy, a Dutch rabbit who Lori and her daughter came across at a pet store (prior to knowing about rescues and shelters).  There were 3 small rabbits in a cage and the store employee advised them not to get the brown and white one as she hadn’t eaten in 2 days!  Immediately Lori declared she wanted that one.  After leaving the pet store they immediately took the tiny bun to their rabbit savvy vet.  The little bun who they named Laddy was put on fluids, given around the clock care and unlimited hay.  After a few weeks Lori and her daughter couldn’t believe Laddy’s transformation.  She had gone from a scared and scrawny little thing to a lively, energetic, outgoing and feisty rabbit!  Laddy spends her days hopping around Lori’s daughter’s room where her cage door is always open for her to come and go as she pleases.  Now Lori advocates that anyone looking to add a rabbit to their family should contact their local rescue or shelter first but knows the decision to take Laddy home with her that day was the right one.

This is 9 month old Basil!  Basil is a dwarf-Lionhead mix who hopped in to Trudy’s life and heart a couple of days before Christmas.  Basil loves to run through Trudy and her boyfriend’s rabbit-proofed house and has just begun bonding with his new lady Rosemary.  Basil’s favourite treat is a slice of tangerine which he doesn’t get as often as he’d like!  Trudy says she never imagined having a pet rabbit before Basil but now she can’t imagine them not being a part of her life!

Basil is so adorable, we’d love to meet Rosemary sometime!

Every year thousands of domesticated rabbits are released into the wild or dumped at shelters in the weeks after Easter.  Rabbits are the third most abandoned animal found at shelters and many people impulsively purchase them as Easter gifts.  Once the novelty wears off they are discarded, forgotten or neglected. 

Rabbits are a 10 year commitment.  They require at least 3-6 hours of free range exercise time daily.  Store bought cages are not large enough to house your rabbit and provide all of the necessities he/she needs to be happy and healthy.  Rabbits love to chew and dig so if you don’t properly rabbit proof your house cords, carpet, clothing, bedding and furniture can all become victims to what is a natural instinct.  When they reach their teenager years (usually starting around 4-6 months of age) they will develop some nasty habits like lunging, growling, humping and marking their territory if you don’t have them spayed or neutered.  Rabbits are social animals who require constant interaction with you or preferably another fixed rabbit.  Rabbits need a constant supply of hay as well as pellets and fresh veggies fed daily and should see a vet at least once a year for a check-up.

So this year, resist the temptation when you walk in to the pet store and buy a chocolate one instead.

This is the adorable baby Blossom!  Jan found her and two other injured rabbits in a box someone dumped on her front garden.  The others have gone to a rescue but Jan decided to give Blossom a loving and forever home.  Blossom is now 5 months old and a sweet snuggle bun who loves to sleep on Jan’s lap!

Meet Blizzard, a white and brown Bun who helped Samantha get over a rough time – the loss of her last rabbit.  Samantha noticed that although she was feeling better, Blizzard seemed to be lonely so she brought home Reese Piece’s to keep him company.  Now they’re inseparable!  When Blizzard isn’t busy lounging he’s enjoying his favs lettuce and apples.
